Biography
Zulay Labra is a Senior Consultant with V&V Consulting Group, bringing more than 30 years of financial services experience across regulatory compliance, operations, client service, organizational leadership, and firm governance.
Prior to consulting, Zulay spent nearly 14 years in executive leadership at GenTrust, a registered investment adviser, serving as both Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer from 2012 through 2023, and continuing as Chief Operating Officer thereafter. In these roles, she led the firm’s operational and compliance infrastructure, with responsibilities spanning regulatory compliance and readiness, client service, human resources, cybersecurity, vendor oversight, business continuity, and firm governance. Earlier in her career, Zulay held leadership roles within Merrill Lynch’s International Division, where her responsibilities included branch operations, supervision, and compliance.
At V&V, Zulay draws on her experience as both a former CCO and COO to help investment advisory firms evaluate and strengthen their compliance and operational infrastructure. Her work focuses on translating regulatory expectations into practical processes, controls, and business practices that are effective, sustainable, and aligned with the realities of running an advisory firm.
In addition to her role with V&V, Zulay is the Founder & Principal of Z Lab, Inc., an independent consulting firm that advises growing organizations on operational effectiveness, organizational structure, leadership, people, and culture.
Zulay brings a practical perspective shaped by decades of industry experience, combining regulatory knowledge with hands-on executive leadership to assess not only whether a firm’s controls and processes are appropriately designed, but how effectively they function in practice.
